The beginning of Modern Magic in Singapore
It is the general consensus that the modern magic in Singapore (Post World War 2) began with the end of the Bo-Ng
Oen AKA The Great Wong. Information on local magic of the prewar period is very short. The only informationWong has found the Great heard in the New World Amusement Park (then at Kitchener Road) in the 1930s.
The Great Wong was born in 1908 in Shanton, a city of Guangdong Province, China and moved to Singapore in 1933. He was the only professional wizard of his time in Singapore and Southeast Asia. He was known for his sharp stage magic, linking rings routine and Sword Basket Illusion. He was also an expert craftsman who built all his propsby hand. He had the gift to find out, the mechanics and methodology of magic props and production from the ground up.
In 1962, the great Wong brought a significant contribution to the international community with the publication of written magic of his famous linking rings routine with English script by Tudor Brock. Another local magician, who was in growing, modern magic in Singapore while the top-end was significantly involved Tan Hock Chuan. He was a teacher by profession, but for the annual events, charity shows and private functions performed. He was (and is) known internationallyfor his magical inventions. Both The Great Wong and Tan Hock Chuan were important influences for many of the first generation of modern Singapore-magician who paved the way for the futureGenerations.
1950
Only after the war and during the British Military Administration, that magic began his career in Singapore, where she is today. In 1950, the year in Singapore Magician's Club was a group of amateur magicians, which was formed from the English-educated professionals.

The Great Wong operated the first Magic Shop from home cum showroom / workshop in Singapore, with 255-A Jalan Besar, where he sells his craft props and distributors items imported from Japan. (This home / shop was destroyed in a fire in December 1988, what) to lose it in most of his books and props
1960
During this time, magicians, such as the Great WongTan Bah Chee, Lim Hap Hin and Tan Choon Tee performed magic courses at the National Theater Club and the YMCA. They were responsible for the production of active mages like Charles Choo, Wong Choy Fok, Chia Hearn Jiang, Gwee Hock Thiam and the late-Vijeyacone.
Early 60s also saw the "Golden Age" of magic with magician run at various locations throughout the country. In this decade, Tan Choon Tee made a name in the international community in the field of magic, mentalism. Linking Ring, he won several international awards for his one-man parades, and has published two books by Micky Hades. He was also a regular contributor to numerous international magazines such as magic Gen., New Pentagram, Magicgram, Magicana and the linking ring.

1970
The 1970s saw the birth of the second generation of Singapore magicians. Some well-known magician, was started during this period included; The Great Wong Kee Chee Ng's son, John Teo, Tang Sai Thong, Ng Kiat Seow, Tang Yeng Fun, Bob Chua, Eric Leong, Tan Teck Seng, Lawrence Tham, Tan Tuan Seng Lawrence Khong and Andrew Kong.
The Singapore Association of the magician was on 10 Founded in March 1973 in friendly"Rivalry", the IBM ring. The club was led by Tan Chee Bah prominent founding members like Lim Hap Hin, Tan Hock Chuan, and Charles Choo.
Magic Shops in Singapore began to spring up in the late seventies. Ng Chee Kee opened a magical setting up booth at the Yaohan Plaza Singapura and Wang Ling's shop in Peninsula Plaza. Charles Choo started his business in August 1978 the 6th to the Floor of Far East Shopping Center. (It would take some time to go to various shopping centers and finally backReturn to the Far East). It became a favorite spot for many, many magicians in the years to come close to the store in the new millennium.
During this time, the Tropicana Night Club was located at the Pacific Plaza, a place that had regular magical ideas. Several famous magicians also visited Singapore in the 70s. 1980
In the 1980s, the local magic scene was flourishing with healthy memberships for the two most important magical associations and an increase in the number of application wizards. Many of today'sVeterans from its name in the 80s. Famous names such as Richard Ang, Patrick Wan Patrick Ng Wang Hai Yan Lin Tan AKA Gician, Paul Koh, AB Francis Koh and Gordon were regularly in the conduct of public and private shows in this decade. The popularity of magic shops, and also grew in 1982, opened a Magic Chew Kin Song & NoveltyCorner at the Chinese Book Section of Popular Book Co Pte Ltd on the 4th Floor of Bras Basah Complex. Gician Tan also opened his first magic shop in Parkway Parade moved to later in Marina Square and was managed by Richard Ang. In addition to this important business, he distributed magic items, and enforces Department Stores
in Singapore and South East Asia.The Singapore audiences were exposed to the world class magic, magic by several television shows and series, which were broadcast onspecials, including local TV David Copperfield, Magic, and The Best of Magic.
Foreign Magi who visited Singapore during this period included David Copperfield, Mark Wilson, Ben Harris, Paul Daniels and Gene Anderson.
1990s
The beginning of this decade saw the introduction of third generation magician in the country, the local charm. Prominent aspiring magicians Enrico Varella, Sherman Tjiong, JC Sum, Joe Yu (Chan Ee Kang), NiqueTan Keong Li, Prakash Puru, Kiki Tay, Alex Tan and Jeremy Pei.
The local chapter of the International Magicians Society was founded, founded by its President, Tan Chee Bah, although the clubs in Singapore was of short duration.
The late 1990s saw a large increase in the global popularity of magic by David Blaine Street Magic specials. Many people started and get into the 'magic and had new media to the boat as the introduction of DVDs and learn on the Internet.
A new spellshop, Magic Castle & Promotions hanging open from Vijay Kumar on Shaw Towers soon, "the place to be," in which new magicians would meet and then.
Sold in this decade was Wang Ling shop in Peninsula Plaza to Patrick Wan. The business was later sold to Richard Ang and is now also known Ang House Of Magic. Patrick Wan opened his new shop, magic wand, which has brought in several branches in various parts of Singapore. Steven Sim also opened Magic Supreme in CoronationPlaza, which has subsequently postponed Park Mall.
The 90s was an exciting decade with many travels and performances by famous magician. In addition to lectures from Michael and Hannah Ammar, Mark Leveridge & Sonja and Wolfgang Riebe, there were public performances of the Pendragon, Princess Tenko, Andre Kole, Franz Harary, David Copperfield, Rudy Coby and Robert Gallop. Other visiting magicians Larry Becker, Tim Ellis, Terry Seabrooke, Phil Cass, AlbertTham.
2000 - Present
Magic has continued to flourish at the local level in this decade. New opportunities and talents have emerged to bring the arts in Singapore. In May 2000 JC Sum organized the first local full-length theatrical show "Magic in the theater" at the Victoria Theater. Only a month later, more than a dozen magicians from the United States and Canada came to Singapore as part of the Magic Festival, organized by the Malls of Centrepoint. Magician asRobert Baxt, Rocco, and Peter Gossamer performed several shows in Centrepoint malls over a week.
In 2004, the Singapore Magic Circle (SMC) by Aloysius Yeo was created and with their online forum, a new pool put together by magic enthusiasts. SMC has grown over 1,000 members and organize regular meetings, events, and the recent Concept: Micro Magic Magic Convention in January 2007.
Magic by a large-scale theatrical musical magic 'of Love', LawrenceKhong, a pastor of Faith Community Baptist Church and his daughter Pricilla, spread the message of the Gospel.
The multi-million-dollar production has been staged many times over the years throughout the world to spread the word of Christ. Subsequently, the same team organized two International Festival of Magic Convention in 2003 and 2005. The first of its kind large scale events include magic competitions, lectures, performances, and a dealer room. International artists such as Jeff McBride, MaxMaven, Johnny Thomspon, The Pendragon, Lee Eun Gyeol and Tommy Wonder were booked to perform at the gala shows and lectures.
In recent years, JC has sum are the most prominent Singapore magicians of this generation. His magic has been seen by millions through his live performances throughout Asia as well as its landmark mass media projects Ch MediaCorp Studio 8 and the subsequent "compilation Street Illusions' DVD / VCD.

Another talented award winning magician, Jeremy Pei, is raising the profile of Singapore magic in the regional theater community with his magic showsorganizes lectures, workshops and active participation in conferences and competitions magic in Japan, Korea, China, Thailand and Australia. His distinctive style of North-Asian influence performance of the magic he has gathered a following with prospective new magician, which he teaches and guides. This decade has seen the introduction of even more magic shops and dealers run by young magicians in order to meet the demand of magic and sorcery enthusiasts to be. This new "Brick & Mortar are magic shops like Street Magic by Tan Wei Ping, Tricky Business by Jimmy Wong, The Magic Hall of Kenneth Peh, and online storessuch as The Little Magic Shop of Ning.
Visiting magicians so far for the new millennium have included Joshua Jay, Shoot Ogawa, Charles Gucci, Nicholas Einhorn.
